Getting around
The walls, built starting from 1561 by the Republic of Venice to stem the enemy attacks, are made up of 14 bastions, 2 platforms, 100 embrasures for cannons, 2 armouries, 4 doors and the casemates of San Michele and San Giovanni.
The itinerary, that winds along the walls, is over six kilometres on a compact asphalt surface at times on a slight slope; along the way there are some benches (seat height: 42 cm) and 3 panoramic telescopes to observe the lower city from above (146 cm above the ground and coin insertion at 110 cm above the ground).

Cannoniera (embrasure) di San Giovanni
viale delle Mura, Spalto di San Giovanni

Entrance
You reach the Cannoniera by passing a metal staircase with an isolated step (16,5 cm high), 12 steps (16 cm high each), a gate (121 cm wide), 5 flights of stairs of 8 steps each (16 cm high each) and further 17 steps (11 cm high each).

Getting around
The Cannoniera di San Giovanni is a precious testimony of military technique in Bergamo at the time of the Venetian domination.
In the two quadrangular openings inside the walls there were cannons, that luckily were never used because the fortress was never attacked.
Inside there are informative and descriptive panels (100 cm above the ground).

Cannoniera di San Michele
viale delle Mura, near Porta Sant 'Agostino

Entrance
You reach the Cannoniera (embrasure) di San Michele, located on the right of the Viale delle Mura after the Sant'Agostino gate, passing a step (5 cm high), a path of about 6 meters downhill (slope of 14%) with uneven stone surface and a door (120 cm wide). To reach the large space, that originally was occupied by cannons and munitions, you have to cover a section of about 10 meters downhill with stone surface, at times uneven and slippery with variable slopes (14% and 20%) and handrail on both sides (83 cm above the ground).

Getting around
Once a military place for the defence of the Sant 'Agostino gate and the homonymous bastion, the Cannoniera di San Michele is an incredibly suggestive space: over the centuries water has dug the inside of the walls, filling the space with beautiful stalactites and stalagmites.
