Basilica of San Vincenzo
Entrance
The entrance has a step (6 cm high) and a double leaf door (96 cm wide each).
Getting around
The basilica, consecrated in 1007 by will of the Archbishop of Milan Ariberto d'Intimiano, is considered one of the most important early medieval buildings in Lombardy. The interior of the basilica, divided into three naves by solid pillars that support round arches, is decorated with notable frescoes and those of the apse are dedicated to the martyrdom of San Vincenzo. The church has benches with kneelers (seat height: 44 cm).
The altar can be reached by passing 9 steps (23 cm high each) with handrail on both sides (89 cm above the ground).
From the presbytery you reach the crypt through a passageway and 11 consecutive steps (18 cm high each). The masonry parapet is decorated with a large fresco depicting the Virgin Mary with Jesus among several Saints.
A paper guide on the history of the church is available in Italian and English.
Baptistery of San Giovanni
Entrance
The Baptistery of San Giovanni is near the Basilica of San Vincenzo. The entrance has 1 step (20 cm high) and a double leaf door (88 cm wide each).
Getting around
The Baptistery has two levels (0,1).
At level 0 there is a "sacrarium", one of the oldest examples of baptismal font made from a single granite boulder.
The altar can be reached by passing 2 steps (17 cm high each).
At level 1, reached via a curving staircase of 32 steps (17 cm high each), there are two altars that are placed in the same niche but at different levels above the entrance to the Baptistery.
The frescoes of the dome and some remains of frescoes in the niche above the entrance are still visible.
