Getting there by public transport

Parking area
In Piazzale Fracassi, about 100 meters from the Castle, there is a public blue strip parking area, with 1 parking lot reserved for disabled pass holders. The disabled pass allows you to stop for free even on blue stripes. It is also possible to park freely on the side of the road. The path up to the Castle is on asphalt road, sloping, with variable slopes; the last stretch of road offers a wonderful panoramic view of the city and the lake.

Entrance
From the road you enter the courtyard of the Castle passing in succession: a passageway (3 m wide), another passageway (150 cm wide), 15 meters paved in cobblestone and sloping (slope from 8 to 10%), a stretch of 20 meters paved in cobblestone. The courtyard of the Castle is a large open space, flat, with gravel surface, used for events and concerts.

To reach the halls of the Castle (the "Mastio"), you pass in succession: a stretch of 30 meters, flat, with a gravel surface; a stretch of 30 meters paved in cobblestones and sloping (slope of 6%); a stretch of 10 meters on a paved floor. After passing a threshold (3 cm high) and a hinged door (90 cm wide) you enter the ground floor of the building, where there is the ticket office-InfoPoint.

Reception
The InfoPoint counter is placed immediately after the entrance door of the building. The museum staff is at your disposal for information and tourist reception services.

Exhibition itinerary
The Castle was built in the eleventh century on the remains of a Roman castrum; the space enclosed by the walls was occupied by a small village. Today of the whole mediaeval building we only have the walls and its walkway, the towers and the entrance tower.

On the ground floor and on the first floor of the building there are rooms used for exhibitions and events; they are connected by an elevator and they are accessible. The top floor is a panoramic point with a wonderful view of the lake; it can be reached from the first floor following in succession: 3 steps, another 4 steps, a stairway of 55 steps with handrail on the right side. Outside, along the walls, there are paths with various steps.

Lift
The lift connects the ground floor with the first floor and has the following characteristics:

  • door width: 90 cm;  cabin: inner space 125x105 cm
  • lift level buttons panel with embossed Braille printing (maximum height 105 cm)
  • emergency bell.

Toilet facilities
On the ground floor there is a bathroom equipped for people with disabilities and it has the following characteristics:

  • vestibule with hinged door (88 cm wide) and a washbasin (clear space in front: 140 cm)
  • toilet with sliding door (85 cm wide)
  • wall-mounted washbasin (clear space in front: 140 cm)
  • floor-standing toilet (seat height: 53; clear space: in front 85 cm; on the right side 25 cm; on the left side 130 cm; horizontal handlebar on the left side of the toilet and handrail on the right side).
