Getting around
The Abbey of Santa Croce was founded in 1080 just outside the walls of the village. The restoration works have modified the façade and the interior, thus losing the originality of the Tibaldi's design.
The central nave can be visited without barriers; on both sides there are three chapels, all communicating with one another. To visit the chapels on the left side, it is necessary to overcome a step (15 cm height); the chapels on the right side can be accessed by a ramp (running slope 50 cm, slope of 18%).
In the pilaster dividing the first from the second chapel on the left side, there is the mold of the foot of the Redeemer in Carrara marble; this relic is from the ancient abbey and, according to the tradition, it dates back to the time of the Crusades.
To access the altar, it is necessary to overcome 1 step (15 cm height); it is possible to avoid this step by using the side entrance to reach the altar from the sacristy. The sacristy has a double door (78 cm wide each).
The church is furnished with benches (46 cm height).
