Parking
Villa Monastero is 200 metres from Varenna town centre. There is an underground car park facing the villa. There are two parking spaces reserved for people with permits for citizens with disability on the street, around 50 metres from the entrance to the villa. Information for visitors
Entry is free for persons with disabilities, and there are reductions for those accompanying.
A manual wheelchair and electric vehicle for the use of persons with disabilities are available at the entrance.

Entrance
The entrance has a double panelled door (each panel 175 cm wide), which is opened during conferences and other events, and a double panelled side door (each panel 57 cm wide) with a bell (h 142 cm). The Villa Monastero complex consists of a first building housing the ticket office, a second building with conference centre and museum, and a third building with guest rooms and cafe. There is a botanic garden in the grounds.

Reception
The entrance hall contains:

  • the information point (counter height 80 cm)
  • the ticket office (counter height 80 cm)
  • the bookshop (counter height 80 cm).

The museum staff are able to provide information and assistance.

Lifts
Villa Monastero has a goods hoist and lift. The goods hoist, located in the ticket office building, connects all the floors (-1, 0 and 1), and has the following specifications:

  • door width 90 cm, space inside cabin 95x133 cm
  • horizontal internal pushbutton panel in Braille and relief (h 80 cm)
  • emergency alarm bell (h 80 cm).

The lift, located in the museum building, connects all the floors (0, 1, 2 and attic), and has the following specifications:

  • door width 100 cm, space inside cabin 104x198 cm
  • internal pushbutton panel in Braille and relief (h 137 cm)
  • acoustic and visual signal on arrival at the floor
  • emergency alarm bell (h 128 cm).

Exhibition layout 
In the first building, the ticket office is on the ground floor, the basement houses temporary exhibitions and has two sofas (seat height 43 cm), and the Sala Polvani conference room (seating for 30) is on the first floor. The first building is around 200 metres from the museum, with a compact surface on an upward slope (8% – 14%).

Access to the villa housing the museum and conference centre is by a flight of 6 steps (h 15 cm) and a single panelled door (93 cm). The alternative entrance is on the right-hand side, with a step (h 3 cm), a ramp (8 m long, gradient 5%) and a double panelled door (each panel 63 cm wide).
The museum has 14 rooms, spread over three floors (0, 1 and 2), all accessible. The doors between the rooms are more than 100 cm wide, and there are no obstacles. The second floor contains the conference centre and the workshop is in the third floor (attic).
The botanic garden is on the shore of Lake Como and surrounds the villa. It has a number of rare plants and trees, some with name plates in Braille. The first 500 metres of the garden have compact pathways. Further on, there are breaks in the surface, areas of subsidence, stairways and terraced walkways.

 Direction signs
The direction signs in the building are written in large, clearly visible characters (at least 7 cm).

Bathroom facilities
There are four equipped toilets.
The first, on floor -1 of the ticket office building, has the following specifications:

  • anteroom with hinged door (90 cm wide)
  • suspended washbasin (space in front 147 cm)
  • bathroom with hinged door (90 cm wide)
  • suspended washbasin (space in front 135 cm)
  • floor-standing WC (space in front 135 cm, 23 cm to the right and 130 cm to the left, vertical handle to the right and handrail throughout)
  • clearly visible bathroom symbols at eye height, with medium to large characters.

The second equipped toilet is to the right of the cafe. Access is by means of a step (h 3 cm) and double panelled door (61 cm each). It has the following specifications:

  • anteroom with hinged door (90 cm wide)
  • suspended washbasin (space in front 129 cm)
  • floor-standing WC (space in front 132 cm, 126 cm to the right and 31 cm to the left, horizontal handle to the right and vertical handle to the left)
  • clearly visible bathroom symbols at eye height, with medium to large characters.

The third equipped toilet is on the ground floor of the museum building. It has the following specifications:

  • anteroom with hinged door (90 cm wide)
  • bathroom with hinged door (90 cm wide)
  • suspended washbasin (space in front 125 cm)
  • floor-standing WC (space in front 87 cm, 120 cm to the right and 21 cm to the left, vertical handle to the left and horizontal handle to the right)
  • clearly visible bathroom symbols at eye height, with medium to large characters.

The fourth equipped toilet is on the top floor of the museum building. It has the following specifications:

  • anteroom with hinged door (90 cm wide)
  • bathroom with hinged door (90 cm wide)
  • suspended washbasin (space in front 96 cm)
  • floor-standing WC (space in front 288 cm, 20 cm to the right and 128 cm to the left, horizontal handle to the left and handrail to the right)
  • clearly visible bathroom symbols at eye height, with medium to large characters.

Cafe
The cafe is 10 metres from the entrance to the museum. Access is by means of 2 consecutive steps (h 16 cm and h 3 cm), which can be avoided by using the mobile ramp (gradient 8%), and a double panelled door (each panel 52 cm wide). The cafe has seating for 20, with round tables with a central leg (space below 110 cm).

Emergency exits
The emergency routes are marked and there is a visual and acoustic alarm.
