Information for visitors
Free entrance for person with disability and reduced fee for his companion. A manual wheelchair is available for visitors. Free audio guides are available (in Italian, English, German and French). Along the exhibition there are multimedia stations with texts in Italian and in English. The Violin Museum organizes guided tours in Italian, English, French, German, Spanish, Japanese and Chinese. Entrance
From the street it is possible to reach piazza Marconi passing a paved section (length 460 cm and 6% gradient). The building that houses the museum has 3 external steps (h 8 cm) that can be climbed via a ramp (length 350 cm, slope 5%) on the right side of the facade. Through large openings enclosed by columns it is possible to get an arcade; on the left side there is a sloping ramp (length 137 cm and 6% gradient) and a double swing door (width 94 cm each) which gives access to the atrium of the museum. On the right side of the arcade, facing the entrance of the museum, there is a bookshop (counter h 100 cm) which is accessed via a ramp (length 137 cm and 6% gradient) and a double swinging door (width 94 cm each).

Reception
In the lobby there are:

  • the information point (counter h 112 cm)
  • the ticket office (counter h 112cm)
  • the cloakroom (with lockers at various heights: 60 cm, 90 cm and 130 cm)

Museum staff offer information and hospitality.

Lifts
There are two lifts connecting all floors of the structure. The first one, near the ticket office, connects the ground floor to floor -1 (visitors must ask for the key at the ticket office) and has the following features:

  • door 90 cm, cabin space 154 x 136 cm
  • internal button panel in Braille and raised (h 118 cm)
  • acoustic signal upon arrival at floor
  • emergency alarm bell (h 123cm).

The second lift is located near the auditorium; it connects the ground floor to the first floor, (visitors must ask for the key at the ticket office) and has the following features:

  • door width 90 cm, cabin space 233 x 137 cm
  • internal button panel in Braille and raised (h 116 cm)
  • acoustic signal upon arrival at floor
  • emergency alarm bell (h 123cm).

Exhibition layout
The museum, housed in the Palazzo dell'Arte, illustrates the history of the violin, its specifications and design, its diffusion in the world and the events of the main families of Cremonese violin makers. The Auditorium, used for concert performances, has a double swing door at the entrance (width 87 cm each) and has 460 seats, of which 6 are reserved for wheelchair users.
The exhibition of the museum is housed on the first floor: it has a double swing door (width 90 cm each) and is divided into 9 themed rooms, which are accessible without obstacles.

  • Room 1 has a sloping ramp (length 50 cm, 6% gradient).
  • Two seats are present along the exhibition (h 40 cm).
  • The first floor also houses a conference hall, which has 70 seats (seat h 46 cm).

The museum offers an interactive multi-sensory journey, revealing the history of the violin through multimedia stations (h 72 cm) with in-depth charts and concert projections performed by famous violinists. Some multimedia workstations (h 105 cm) analyse the technical aspects of violin making.
In room 2 called "Bottega del Luthier" the museum staff is on hand to show some violin specimens housed in cabinets and drawers placed at different heights (h 30 cm, h 50 cm, h 70 cm).
In room 5 called “Lo scrigno del Tesoro” the most important instruments of the great cremonese masters are on display, including renowned instruments by Antonio Stradivari.
There is also a multimedia tour aimed at children, with 3 interactive stations (h 46 cm).

Direction signs
Along the various paths there are directional arrows written in large letters (at least 7 cm) and clearly visible.

Restrooms
The toilet accessible to persons with disabilities is situated on floor -1 near the lift and has the following features:

  • anteroom with sliding door 86 cm
  • wall-mounted washbasin (103 cm front space)
  • toilet with sliding door 86 cm
  • floor mounted WC (front 82 cm space, 35 cm right side, left side 147 cm, horizontal grab bar on the left side, handrails along the perimeter of the bathroom, shower head on right side)
  • children's changing table in the ante-bathroom
  • Bathroom signs are clearly visible, at eye level and medium-large size.

Emergency exits
Emergency exits are indicated. An acoustic alarm system is installed.
