Parking area:
The abbey is in a limited traffic area. It is possible to park in the 3 available parking areas (P1, P2 and P3) located at about 500 meters; Parking P1 has 1 parking space reserved for disabled pass holders, parking P3 has 5 parking spaces reserved for disabled pass holders. From the parking areas, directional signs indicate the route recommended for people with disabilities to reach the abbey (asphalt, cobblestone and paved pavement).
People with disabled pass can access the churchyard on Sunday mornings for religious services. The churchyard is paved with cobblestone and paved paths. A ramp on the left side (length 30 meters, slope of 6%) leads to the entrance of the church.
Entrance
The entrance presents in succession: 10 steps (14 cm high each), 3 more steps (17 cm high each) and a double leaf door (91 cm wide each). People with motor disabilities can use the entrance on the left side of the church that has a double leaf door (70 cm wide each) and a ramp (length: 470 cm, slope of 8%).

Reception
The infopoint and the ticket office (counter height: 95 cm) are located inside the church. The museum staff is at your disposal for information and tourist reception services.
Getting around
The abbey of Morimondo is one of the most important Cistercian complexes of the twelfth century. The side aisles and the central nave can be visited without obstacles. The altar can be reached by passing 4 consecutive steps (16 cm high each); the wooden choir, in the rear part of the altar, is worth a visit and can be reached by passing 6 steps (16 cm high each) and a hinged door (87 cm wide).
The church has benches (seat height: 47 cm) and chairs (seat height: 44 cm). Thanks to its extraordinary acoustics, concerts of classical and sacred music and choral singing shows are regularly organized in the abbey.
"Museo dell'Abbazia": exhibition itinerary
The Museum of the Abbey is in the Cistercian abbey, characterised by its medieval structure. It is possible to visit: the Cloister, the Chapter Room, the Monks' Working Rooms, the Hall of Founders, the Loggia, the Refectory, the Dormitory and the Comolli Museum. Some spaces are used for conferences and exhibitions.
The Cloister
The Cloister can be accessed from the right aisle, passing a double leaf door (71 cm wide each) and 11 steps (16 cm high each). People with motor disabilities can reach the Cloister by using the entrance in Piazza Municipio 1. To reach the elevator leading to level 1, you need to pass in succession: two consecutive double leaf doors (47 cm wide each), a hinged door (112 cm wide) and a ramp (length 18 cm, slope of 17%). A double leaf door (42 cm wide each) leads into the cloister.
The Chapter House
The Chapter House can be accessed from the Cloister via 3 steps (18 cm high each), which can be overcome by a folding ramp (length 176 cm, slope of 15%), and a double leaf door (97 cm wide each).
Refettorio
From the Cloister you reach the Refectory by passing a step (18 cm high) and a double leaf door (77 cm wide each).
Sala dei Monaci
From the Cloister, passing two consecutive doors (the first one is a double leaf door - 64 cm wide each- and the second one is a hinged door - 90 cm wide) you reach the “Sala dei Monaci”, where the "scriptorium" is, the place where the amanuensis monks used to transcribe ancient texts.
The Loggiato and the Sala dei Fondatori
From the “Sala dei Monaci”, passing through a hinged door (80 cm wide), 1 step (7 cm high) and a double leaf door (52 cm wide each), you reach the loggia that overlooks the surrounding countryside. From the loggia, through 26 consecutive steps (17 cm high each), you enter the “Sala dei Fondatori” and the former stables.
The Dormitory and the Comolli Museum
On the second floor of the monastery are the dormitory and the Comolli Museum, both reachable by elevator.
The dormitory, consisting of a single room with dividing panels, can be reached by a passageway (72 cm wide).
The Museum, which preserves some of the works and furnishings of the liberty painter Angelo Comolli, can be visited without obstacles. Guided tours (about 30 min) are organized to visit the museum.

Orientation signage
All external and internal spaces (Church excluded) present well contrasted directional arrows with large lettering (at least 7 cm).
The Lift
The monastery spreads over four floors and has a lift and an elevator connecting all levels. The lift, located in the "scrittorium", has the following characteristics:
- door width: 75 cm, cabin interior space: 84x126 cm
- internal panel marked in Braille (110 cm high above the floor)
- acoustic and visual signal of arrival at a floor
- emergency bell (125 cm high above the floor).
The elevator connects all floors and can be reached from the entrance of the Town Hall (Piazza Municipio 1), by passing in succession: two double leaf doors (47 cm wide each), a hinged door (112 cm wide) and a ramp (length 18 cm, slope of 17%). In order to use it, it is necessary to ask the key to the staff of the Foundation.
The elevator has the following characteristics:
- door width: 80 cm, space inside cabin; 130x80 cm
- internal panel marked in Braille (110 cm high above the floor)
- emergency bell (115 cm high above the floor).
Toilet facilities
A toilet is in the Cistercian court near the information centre of the Ticino Park and has the following characteristics:
- external ramp (length 61 cm, slope of 5%)
- vestibule with hinged door (91 cm wide)
- toilet with hinged door (84 cm wide)
- washbasin: clear space in front 132 cm
- floor standing toilet (clear space: in front: 240 cm; on the right side: 111 cm; on the left side 38 cm; horizontal handlebar on the right side of the toilet, handrail on the left side)
- high contrast symbols indicating toilet facilities, positioned at eye level, using medium to large size letters.
A second toilet is located on the ground floor in front of the Town Hall and has the following characteristics:
- toilet with hinged door (87 cm wide)
- washbasin: clear space in front 135 cm
- floor standing toilet (clear space: in front 140 cm; on the right side: 151 cm; on the left side 29 cm; horizontal handle on the right side of the toilet, handrail along the perimeter of the bathroom).
- high contrast symbols indicating toilet facilities, positioned at eye level, using medium to large size letters.
In the monastery, along the visit route, there are two more toilet facilities, one of which is equipped for people with disabilities. The first one, (accessible), is located inside the “Sala dei Monaci” and has the following characteristics:
- external ramp (length 91 cm, slope of 13%)
- vestibule with hinged door (83 cm wide)
- bathroom with sliding door (88 cm wide)
- washbasin: clear space in front 140 cm
- floor standing toilet (clear floor space: in front 120 cm; on the right side 61 cm; on the left side 94 cm).
The second, located in the dormitory on the second floor, can be reached by passing 1 step (22 cm high) and has the following characteristics:
- vestibule with hinged door (90 cm wide)
- washbasin: clear space in front 100 cm
- toilet with hinged door (90 cm wide)
- floor-standing toilet (clear space: in front 111 cm; on the right side 26 cm; on the left side 134 cm; horizontal handlebar on the left side of the toilet and handrail on the right side)
- high contrast symbols indicating toilet facilities, positioned at eye level, using medium to large size letters.
Safety exits:
Emergency routes are well indicated. The building has an acoustic alarm device.
